Through PRI* I became aware that we as humans are all part of a trans-generational chain, in which we – unintentionally and unconsciously – pass on unprocessed experiences of pain from our own childhood, which can be harmful for our children, ourselves and the people around us. Passing on these patterns is not our fault, does not make us guilty or a bad person – since it is unconscoius behaviour – but as soon as you know of this cycle – you are able to change this, for yourself but also for your children. That gives so much hope for future generations, knowing that we – every singe one of us – has the ability to break this trans-generational cycle and really make a change.

I wrote a book about my experiences as a parent and the experiences I had with my own parents, as an adult and also as a child. The book is also about how I was able to reconnect with my mother, who left our family when I was only 5 years old, and never came back. I didn’t have contact with her for many many years. In 2015 we got in touch, I really wanted to know what had happened all those years ago. I wanted to hear her side of the story. We started writing letters. Our letter-exchange lasted for three years and in this period of time we wrote over 80 letters. In June of 2018 we saw each other again for the fist time. Embracing her felt like ‘coming home’. I never expected this reunification to happen, but it did. It still feels like a miracle to me. I know for sure that this would not have been possible if it had not known about PRI. PRI made it possible to open my heart again, also for her.

The book will be published in the Netherlands in spring of 2020.
